Carbonized Glulam

Thermally modified wood, treated at high temperatures without chemical additives, showcases rich grain and has anti-corrosive properties, known as carbonized wood. Common glulam types include Douglas Fir, Red Pine, Spruce, and Scotch Pine. Surface carbonized wood, created using an oxygen torch, features a thin carbonized layer that enhances the grain, has a grade 2 anti-corrosion rating, and a 6% moisture content, making it suitable for outdoor, above-ground use. Deep carbonized wood, treated at around 200°C, also called fully carbonized wood, has a grade 3 anti-corrosion rating, an 8% moisture content, and is suitable for indoor use like wall panels and furniture, offering stronger load-bearing capacity.
